2007 - in retrospect

31st December 2007

In general, 2007 was bit of mixed bag for travel. We made the best of our Easter time trip to Copenhagen and Stockholm during both of managed to come back with the henous of colds and coughs. As I have been to Stockholm before, the lack of concentration on this trip was not as much of a problem as it might have been but would otherwise have been problematic. Thankfully, we had a pleasant hotel to stay in while we mixed the sightseeing with recovery.

View of the Last Judgement at the Berne Münster, SwitzerlandWe did, however, manage to bounce back for a rather enjoyable weekend in Berne and Fribourg for our next trip which was a very pleasant stay during a warm Swiss summer.

Our next big trip after Copenhagen and Stockholm would be to New Zealand. As with our previous trip to New Zealand, we would be visiting family on the North Island but this time would then head down to the South Island for a week. Whilst in New Zealand, I was able to induge my interest in wine and changed my opinion on Pinot Noir which I now really appreciate - but only if it comes from Central Otago!

Torre de Belem, LisbonA last minute trip to Lisbon, the Portugese capital, would introduce us to the history of a country which we had not previously visited. The Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, the Castelo de São Jorge (Castle of St George) and the National Pantheon formed the highlights of this particular trips.

The year was nicely rounded off with a visit to the Terracotta Army at British Museum, which we had been looking forward to for some time. Our visit to the British Museum, has only hardened our resolve to see the Terracotta Army when we visit China in 2009.
