2006 - in retrospect by Mark Sukhija

I was kinda slack in documenting this years travels for this site but I did manage to put together two sets of notes for 2006.

The first set is from our trip to Libya and Egypt. Neither of us had been to Libya or Egypt before. Although we have been meaning to goto Egypt for some, we never got round to it. Neither of us, until recently, gave any consideration to visiting Libya. This prejudice probably came about from our perceptions of the country based on the coverage of the country in the western media. However, we both highly enjoyed our time in Libya - it was a new experience and probably even more enjoyable for exceeding our expectations. Tourism is young in Libya and it is somewhere that we would like to return to. We decided to goto Libya as it would be a totally new experience for us and the total solar eclipse would be visible there.

The second set of notes I put together is from my first trip to New Zealand. The main purpose of the trip was to visit family in the Taranaki region of the North Island and we restricted our travel to the North Island. We were able to live with this as we knew we would return to New Zealand again so we don't have to cram everything into one trip. Which is a nice and relaxing way to do things.
