Lake Rotokare is, as far as I am aware, missed by most visitors to New Zealand and, probably, by many visitors to Taranaki Now part of a scenic reserve with a pest-exclusion fence around it, Lake Rotokare is home to several species of native flora (including Rimu and Rata) and fauna (NZ Pigeon / Kereru and the Black Shag).
Lake Rotokare is an enjoyable drive 12km east of Eltham off State Highway 3 - the drive alone is worth it, the Lake is a crowning jewel!
