Kent - Leeds Castle by Mark Sukhija

Kent - Leeds Castle

Well known for it's extensive grounds and birdlife, Leeds Castle is beautifully set and a marvellous day out from London.

Although Leeds Castle was inhabited for over 900 years until 1974, the Castle only rarely saw battle - most famously when Edward II captured the castle after Margaret de Clare, Baroness Badlesmere, the constables wife, refused shelter and fired upon the consort Isabella of France killing six of her party.

Lady Olive Baillie, the castles last inhabitant, left the castle to the nation after her death 1974 - and the castle and grounds have been open to the nation ever since.

A great choice for historic home lovers, gardeners and familys alike.
