Every Christmas season on Oxford Street in central London, lights adorn Oxford Street. The tradition of Christmas lights on Oxford Street began in 1959 - a full 5 years after the Regent Street lights were first turned one. The tradition was resumed in in 1978 after an 11 year hiatus after a recession halted the Christmas light display.
