Total Eclipse in 2009
In addition to planning this years travels we are also looking a long way forward to 2009. The reason for planning so far ahead is the total solar eclipse, which will be visible in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, China, Southern Japan and the Marshall and Gilbert Islands.
We have wanted to go to China for some time and this is a fantastic oppurtunity to both visit China and view one of the most spectacular natural phenonma known to man. The 2009 eclipse also promises to be the longest eclipse of the century and is, therefore, utterly unmissable to anyone with an interest in observing eclipses.
The maximum length of totality on the Chinese mainland will be in the Shanghai area at nearly six minutes although Hangzhou is closer to the centre-line of the Eclipse so it's likely we'll be viewing the eclipse from close by to one of these cities.
