We did a little bit of digging today to find out about how we could get to see the Rowi. Sadly, I didn't consult my-very-own page on the Kiwi bird earlier and won't be able to see the Rowi on this visit. There is a nature tour operator at Okarito township who will take you too see the Rowi in the DOC Reserve. Judging by information posted in the door of the operator, tours cost 45NZD.

There is a DOC Reserve for the Rowi en route from SH6 to Okitaru - but as we went past late afternoon/early evening and Rowi are nocturnal we decided not to hang around on this occasion.

As we'll likely be back in the region for heli-hiking on Franz-Josef Glacier, it's likely we'll be spying out the Rowi next time round.
