Breeze Motel

Review date: 15th November 2007

During the short break (under 50 minutes) between our arrival in Greymouth and our tour of the Monteiths Brewery we found the Breeze Motel and decided to check in as it was convieniant and close to the centre of town.

I have taken the unusual step of reviewing this dive before we've checked out on account of the fact that:

  1. this place is a sh1t hole
  2. we pre-paid (alarm bells should have sounded when this was asked for!)
  3. the office is closed

There are a number of reasons I totally dislike where I am currently sitting. They are as follows:

  • all electrical appliances were unplugged. That indicates management did it as this is common in NZ. This including the fridge. Whoever did this did not remove the milk from the fridge. The fridge stinks.
  • our room stinks of damp.
  • the door at the end of the corridor has a lock on our, i.e. the guests, side of the door. It opens into the owners apartment.
  • a door part way down the corridor has a lock on the other side of the door. The owners bedroom is on the other side. All access points to a guests room should be securable from the guests side.
  • our double bed has an electric blanket seems to work only in the middle of the bed.
  • the in-wall cupboard doors swing at the bottom but slide at the top. Eh?
  • there's carpet in the bathroom. Carpet in the bathroom is evil as it gets wet, stinks and is downright unhygenic. Plus it hasn't been laid properly. Nor has it been hoovered for, well, some time. Oh yeah, we got some surplus carptet lying around the living area.
  • as an outside wall, we have one of those doors that opens into conversatory in an English house that was the height of fashion in the 1970's.
  • the laundry is over four times more expensive than our motel in major tourist centre of Queenstown.
  • and it's f*cking cold.
  • the TV aerial has been run along the corridor from the owners apartment, through the cupboard with the swing-slide door and into our TV! I wonder what the licensing people think of that?
