Gothic architecture
These are some notes I've put together on Gothic Architecture.
Gothic architecture
- flourished during the medieval period
- was preceded by Romanesque architecture
- was succeded by Renaissance architecture
- originated in France during the 12th Century and lasted until the 16th Century
- was previously known as Opus Francigenum (the "French-style")
- was refered to as Gothic during the latter part of the Renaissance as stylistic insult
Characteristic features include:
- pointed arches
- ribbed vaulting
- flying buttresses
