The Surbiton Flyer, Surbiton

Review date: 26 May 2007

Popped in to The Surbiton Flyer for the first time in a while and have somewhat mixed feelings about the new setup.

The refurb has made the place a bit more comfortable with some cozy sofas, tables and such likes but the selection of beers have really taken a dive.

The Surbiton Flyer used to do a very full range of Fullers beers including bottles of London Porter. This, sadly, has changed to being a rather poor quality set of bottled lagers with taps being limited to the superior London Pride, ESB and Chiswick.

The other issue was staffing. There was a single female serving at the bar. In spite of the live band playing. Which made service somewhat difficult. IMO, given the nature of the pub industry no female should be left to tend bar alone. From a service perspective if you're expecting people in (which you are when a band is playing) a minimum of two staff are required.

If this is a typical Saturday night, Fullers really need to take a look at the management of The Surbiton Flyer both in terms of staffing and the product range on offer.
