The Old Explorer, Oxford Circus
Review date: 24 July 2007
After a hard mornings hard shopping on Oxford Street, we popped into The Old Explorer - a Greene King venue loudly billed on it's exterior as a "Traditional Pub."
The Old Explorer is a bit of a barn of a place with a general lack of any kind of atmosphere other than the breathable type.
Service was pretty punctual, courteous and professional.
The Sausage and Mash was pretty good as was the Steak and Old Speckled Hen pie although judging from the excessive hotness and promptness of delivery I'd guess that they'd been through the microwave.
There's also a standard selection of Greene King beers on offer. The IPA was well-kept on this visit.
Overall, I couldn't really fault this place for doing what every one else is doing but can't award any points for anything exceptional either. Not a bad pub but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back.
