The Don Carlos is a recent opening in Zürichs Niederdorf and recommended to us. On this sunny evening, outside seating in the Stüssihofstaat square with a grill.

The Don Carlos grill menu does not over-stretch itself as is customary with some other establishments in this vicinity.

Although billed as an Argentine restaurant, the Don Carlos doesn't do a strong line in steaks that seem to typify Argentine restaurants in Europe. In fact, it doesn't do any.

My three learn'd colleagues went for the chicken marinated in honey and lemon. I took the Bruschetta of Beef. Rare. Side servings of sweet potatoes, pommes frites, rice and mixed vegetables were also forthcoming.

All servings of meat, sweet potatoes and rice were excellent. The Pommes Frites, however, were of the ultra skinny variety that drew inevitable comparisons with McDonalds. Upon any return, the fries will not be ordered.

Service was friendly and helpful and was a strong area on this visit.

I'll be back to try the Don Carlos again and will report back here.
