Zeughauskeller, Zürich

Review date: 11 Feburary 2007

Having had a most enjoyable time at the White Turf event in St Moritz, we took dinner at the Zeughauskeller on Zurichs Bahnhofstrasse. Located in Zurichs old armoury, the Zeughauskeller serves up traditional Swiss fayre with various items of weaponary poised above the doors.

To drink, Mark took the Highlander Whisky-Malt Beer - Flambe with Firewater. A large glass was brought to our table and the firewater lit and extinguished by the serving of the beer.

The Ostschweiz Schüblig - part beef, part pork - is a speciality of the Eastern Part of Switzerland, especially the St Gall region and the Zeughauskeller did not disappoint. Sizeable, meaty and tasty. The only suggestion I do have for visitors to the Zeughauskeller is to forego the potato salad that comes with the sausages and go for the Rösti instead. It's only a franc or two more, but well worth it.

As is customary, service at the Zeughauskeller was robust, quick and efficient. All very Swiss-German.

Very good. recommended.
