Der Klötzlikeller, Berne
Review date: 23 June 2007
After the disappointment of lunch at the Bindella in Fribourg, Der Klötzlikeller was a more than satisfying bounce-back.
Der Klötzlikeller is situated right in the heart of Berns Old Town in one of the old cellars below street-level. There has been a Keller or restaurant here since 1635. The barrel-vaulting and brick-work of the cellar gives an excellent feel and sense of history to this quintessentially old-world eatery.
The Entrecôte with pommes-frites was excellent, substantial at 200 grams and done perfectly rare just as requested. The Lamb Fillets, equally, were excellent and come more highly recommended than the Entrecôte. The Lamb Fillets, three lean pieces per plate, were beautifully coated in garlic and rosemary which complimented the meat excellently.
The service was quick, efficient and very helpful.
I could not find any reason to fault Der Klötzlikeller and am pleased to recommend it to readers of this page.
