Switzerland
Switzerland is a central European landlocked country and probably best known for it's mountains, lakes and chocolate. Being at the centre of the Europe, bordering Italy to the south, Liectenstein and Austria to the east, Germany to the north and France to the west, Switzerland is easily accessible from Europe.
While Switzerland is well known for all these things, there are plenty of other options and I will try to tell you about them in this section of the site.
Where to go in Switzerland
I'm not really much of a sportsperson, so have conveniently
ignored the skiing/snowboarding etc options and concentrated
on where city people like me might like to go in Switzerland.
Switzerlands three largest cities - Zürich, Geneva and Basel - are all handy entry points to Switzerland as they have international airport as is probably where you'll start.
The Swiss Tourist Board people have broken Switzerland into a number of regions which I've listed below. Each region has different qualities and things which may (or may not) interest you. I will be developing these pages over the next days and weeks with various bits of information I've got lying around my hard disk that I've accumulated over the years.
- Eastern Switzerland / Liechtenstein
- Graubünden
- Zurich (Region)
- Central Switzerland
- Basel Region
- Schweizer Mittelland
- Bernese Oberland
- Neuchâtel / Jura / Bernese Jura
- Lake Geneva Region
- Geneva (Region)
- Valais
- Ticino
- Fribourg Region
Festivals in Switzerland
Switzerland is home to many festivals and cultural events. There are a variety of events which should cater to most, if not all, tastes. [ More ]
Chocolate
Switzerland maintains a very strong rivallry with Belgium for the worlds best cholocates. In Zürich, you must try the produce of Sprüngli and Teuscher. From Sprüngli, the delicacy is the Luxemburgli which are produced fresh daily and must be consumed with a couple of days but preferably the same day. Fans of Lindt chocolate will find it widely available from many outlets and it is possible to visit the outlet in Kilchberg, just outside Zürich.
