A week in Italy

We're planning a train journey through Italy this June. We will be leaving Zürich on a Friday evening for Milan. As we're arriving quite late, we will be spending the first night the Starhotels Anderson which we found to be decent on our last visit to Milan over the Easter weekend this year.

As we're going to be travelling with some first time visitors to Italy, we'll be visiting all the major attractions in our various destinations.

We've only got one day in Milan before we head down to Florence. We'll spend four nights in Florence. Aside from Florence city itself, we will be making side trips to San Gimignano and Pisa.

From Florence, we head to Rome for five nights. We'll be pretty busy in Rome. From the Vatican, we will be visiting St Peters Basilica, the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and the nearby Castell Sant'Angello. Elsewhere in Rome, we won't be missing the Coliseum and the Ancient City.

One of our favorite museums in Rome is the Galleria Borghese which is home to some of the most magnificent work of Gianlorenzo Bernini, a Canova and many paintings by such masters as Carravaggio.

We're may also take a day trip to the historic Umbrian town of Assisi which is home to the revered Saint Francis - founder of the Fransiscan Order of monks in the Roman Catholic faith.
