Ristorante 'La Taverna degli Amici'

Review date: 20 October 2007

En route to the Catacombs, following a walk through Campo d'Fiori, it was time to stop for lunch and we stumpled across Ristorante 'La Taverna degli Amici' down a little side-street in a secluded piazza.

'La Taverna degli Amici' is an interesting one from a review perspective in that it provided two conflicting perspectives. All the basic technical stuff was in place in that service was good and the meal was well prepared. Conversly, we didn't actually SpSpaghetti Vongole on account of the fact that it was too strongly flavoured and was, therefore, simply wasn't to our taste. However, the "Polpette di melanzana" (Aubergine balls) were excellent and most enjoyable.

Coming in at 70Euro for two starters, two pasta mains, a shared desert and a bottle of water (no booze!) Ristorante 'La Taverna degli Amici' is over-priced. However, I guess that's what you expect in this part of Rome.

A couple of tourists had managed to find this place, which is not surprising given the location, but the overwhelming spoken language was Italian which indicates that the place is popular with local people - who perhaps know better than us. But we do know what we like and not (probably not in this case!)

I'm not sure what to say, but should we stop by the Ristorante 'La Taverna degli Amici' once again we'll order something that may well give us more satisfaction.
