Ara Pacis restaurant - La Capricciosa

Review date: 20 October 2007

Following a somewhat disappointing, overpriced luncheon it was a relief to return to La Capricciosa, in Largo Lombardy just off Via Corso.

I've been to La Capricciosa quite few times over the years and am alway happy to return. Being served by knowledgeable waiting staff is a pleasure.

I took the Carpaccio di Manzo as an appetizer and the filet of steak in a pepper sauce for a main. For desert I took the Tiramisu.

All three courses were excellent and can be recomended. The steak was excellent and done rare as requested. The Carpaccio was tender and raw and flavoursome. The tiramisu had just the right amount and the right type of texture. Many tiramisu suffer from being overleft and collapse under their own excessive sogginess - not such problems here.

An excellent range of wines to suit all palates and budgets are available. The vast bulk of wines are, understandably, Italian and cover the whole country. If you don't know much about wine, ask your waiter for advise - they're happy to help and I can assure you that they, as general rule, won't let you drink a corked bottle. And yes they do know how to identify one very very quickly.
