NH Brussels City Centre
Review date: 16 September 2006
The NH Brussels City Centre is situated adjacent to the Avenue Louise, one of Brussels most popular shopping streets and is a good 15 minute walk from the Grand Place. This, however, was to be it's most redeeming feature.
We checked in a bit late (around 22:00) and we're received by a young lady who seemed to have just had enough of working life. Of course, many of us have had enough of working life but many of do not work in the "Hospitality Industry." Simply not interested in providing any assistance whatsoever. We think we were just downright lucky to get our room. Even though we had paid for it. Still, at least she pointed out where we could get breakfast. (Not that it was included, of course. But more of that later.)
Anyway, our room was cramped. The bathroom was real small. Two paces from shower to lavatory. Perhaps three if you turned to use the sink. The room was scorching hot as the airconditioning had been turned off. We suspect that the previous customer turned it off because he/she/they were unable to sleep at night because of the racket it made when on. So, the choice was sleep in a boiler or get no sleep in a reasonable-temperature room. Sleep it was. At least it's more environmentlly friendly that way. And it keeps the electricty bill down too.
Come breakfast, we were informed by the other lady who checks who comes to breakfast that it would cost us 12.50EUR per person for breakfast. We don't mind paying for breakfast. But we do mind getting ripped off. Not only had we not been informed that breakfast had not been included, but the breakfast was cr*p. We'd have been better off finding some local cafe and getting something there. It would have cost the same (probably less) and been a whole heap better.
Even for under 50.00GBP per night, one really felt as though one had been totally shafted. We won't be staying there again.
