The Antwerp Hilton

Review date: 06 August 2006

Centrally located on Antwerps Groenplats, the Antwerp Hilton is perfectly located for all the major sites of Antwerp. Right round the corner from de Kathedraal, the Hilton is also walking distance from the Rubenshuis, the baroque-St Carolus church and St-Pauls Church. St Jakobs church is pretty close by as well. It's also pretty close the vibrant Grot-markt for many a place to eat or drink, although many in this area are geared up to relieve tourists of their wallets.

We walked the several hundered meters from the Art Deco main station in Antwerp through the modern shopping district to the Antwerp Hilton. Arriving from the Groenplats side, we entered the hotel through the Cafe/Bistro of the hotel where the original entrance would have been. The reception at the hotel was comptent, if not special. We were greeted by slightly nervous trainee who was competently handled by his mentor. As his mentor slide away to assist another customer, our trainee seemed relaxed enough to answer some of our questions about Antwerp and provide us with maps etc.

The room we had booked (which was described as a "Standard double" by Expedia) was sizeable. The room was both comfortable and clean - although we were on the wrong side of the building for a view of the Cathedral. Parts of the hotel seem to have been undergoing a process of refurbishment, which was clearly making some progress over the weekend but in no way bothered us as it seemed to progress without noise while we were there.
