Since I've moved to Switzerland in 2000, I've been through guide books galore - and that includes
a fair share of dross. These are the only three I've used which
I can, head held high, recommend. They're all excellent and
reliable sources of information.
Rough Guide
I've been using The
Rough Guide to Switzerland since I first moved
to Switzerland and it's been indispensable guide ever since.
It's strong on places of interest, history, Swiss culture
and festival information. Contains excellent hotel recommendations
to cover all budgets and dining information is decent -
although I tend to rely on theMichelin
Red Guidefor
dining information. Impossible to fault as general guide
to Switzerland.
Michelin Red
Michelin
Red Guide to Switzerland is,
as you would expect, very strong on hotel and restaurant
recommendations. I've used the Michelin Red all over Switzerland
and have yet to be disappointed. Some may find the recommendations
to upscale for their tastes but the entries are, generally,
good value-at-price. Commentary is given German, French
or Italian according to region being covered, so having
an appreciation of these languages is a definate plus.
Never had a bad restaurant from the Michelin
Red Guide to Switzerland
Lonely Planet
The Switzerland
Lonely Planetis
a fairly reliable affair. Lighter than the The
Rough Guide to Switzerland in
historical and cultural affairs, it is, nonetheless, a
solid text resplendid with practical, useful information
on where to stay, eat and dine. Very worthwhile.
