Hotel Sven Vintappare, Stockholm
Review date: 15 April 2007
During our
stay in Stockholm we stayed at the Hotel Sven Vintappare,
right in the heart of Stockholms Old Town.
Without a doubt, the best aspect of the Hotel Sven Vintappare is the the staff. They are polite, cheery and hospitable to a fault. Each morning, our receptionist would be there with a smile and enthusiasm. Unlike front-of-house staff at other hotels who more often than not seem to be doing a job they don't like, those at Hotel Sven Vintappare really seemed to enjoy what they were doing. I really don't know if that's true or not, but I, the customer, believed it. That's what the hospitality industry, as a whole, needs to aim to acheive. Customer satisfaction.
Each morning we were warmly greeted by our receptionist, who doubled-up serving breakfast in the all-day cafe downstairs. The breakfast spread was not large (nor is the cafe) but of a good quality - comprising of a selection of yogurts, muselis and other Scandinavian delights. The closest you'll get to a full-English for breakfast is the excellent selection of Earl-Grey teas on offer (leaves, not bags) with each tea individually prepared. The cafe is open all-day should you require a top-up of Chai-Masala.
The reception of Hotel Sven Vintappare is not open 24-hours but a message was left for us to contact the receptionist by phone who gave us the access code for the front-door and we found the key to our room in the front door.
The building of Hotel Sven Vintappare dates from 1607, although it has only been a hotel for the last three or four years.
As a result of the age of the building, the Hotel only contains seven rooms. The former attic of this old-world building has been transformed into the suite which exudes Swedish-style and elegance with it's Gustavian style furnishings and pastel-colours.
Access to all-rooms is only gained through steep-spiral staircase. For those in the suite, the front door opens to even more stairs at the top of the fifth-floor. But the walk is worth is.
It should be noted, however, that there is no lift in the building and access for those with walking difficulties may well be impossible.
The hotel is, apparently, owned by a prominent Swedish Opera Singer.
If we return to Stockholm, we will without hesitation book into the Hotel Sven Vintappare. For comfort. For breakfast. For style. But most of all, for the great staff. My heartiest congratulations to all involved in this splendid venture.
