Airline meals

In a spasm of de-inspiration I have decided to add a new section to this wannabe website. A commentary on Airline foods. You are also invited to submit your pictures of airline meals for publication on this site along with your comments and votes.

Comment: Well, more snacks. And a good selection too. Fruits. Sandwiches. Peanuts. Snack biscuit type things. And, drinks of course. `For excellent range and variety beyond just nuts - a good score in the snack category.

Comment: Well this really was a disappointing breakfast. The fried noodles with chicken, "leafy" greens and black mushrooms were cold. It had been heated up at some point (clear from very slight warmth and condensation) but it was cold when it arrived. And I'm not sure I know which bits were the "leafy greens" either. I think they meant herbs - there were a few of those.
Joghurt was nice - but Swiss joghurt usually is.

Comment: It's a sad day when a bag of processed peanuts beats a sandwich. But this bag of nuts definately does beat the Swiss Sandwich I had a couple of weeks ago.
The white wine (a Reisling) was highly drinkable. A bit sweet for my particular tastes but enjoyable.

Comment: In the choice between braised pork in green curry with vegtables and steamed rice and pan fried beef with peppercorn sauce, ratatouille and mashed potatoes it was always going to be the pork in a green curry. The pork itself was average although the rice came out pretty well - and a darn site better than some places I've had lunch in Zürich
Either dish came with a penne pasta and vegetable salad. Which wasn't all that really.
Resulted buoyed by metal cutlery, very drinkable Paul Mas Syrah wine and Mars Ice Cream

Comment: In spite of there being a choice of hame or cheese sandwiches, this ham sandwich was thrust at me. Probably best given the last cheese sandwich I had on Swiss which I didn't like. The ham sandwich scores scores ½ a point on account of being semi-edible (I ate half of it before giving up and it didn't ruin my palate before I tucked into the drinkable but uninspiring Australian wine.) Better but a long way to go.

Comment: Well. What a way to start this column. With a crap meal. In many ways this epitomises the airline meal. No imagination. It's a cheese sandwich. With gherkin. The Gherkin is the one ingredient you can guarantee is in every Swiss sandwich. The cheese didn't taste of anything. The bread was dry and stale on the inside and sweet (like dried honey) on the outside. Yuck! The best thing about this meal was the Australian red wine which succesfully took away the taste of the sandwich - hence two points.
